Smart Wheelchair

The Smart Wheelchair project aims to design and implement a system of autonomous navigation for electric wheelchairs based on obstacle detection and avoidance, along with the indoor and outdoor tracking of the wheelchair, thus allowing for the creation of geo-contextual applications helpful for disabled people.

The system will use different kinds of sensors, embedded in the wheelchair and disposed in the environment, in order to improve the quality of the information. The ultimate goal will be the embodiment of a device (demonstrator) integrating the technologies developed and a test environment, that will enable an autonomous or semi-autonomous navigation system.
